Tammy Watt

watt_picTammy was born in Stratford, Ontario and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1978. She is a graduate of the B.Ed. program with a major in Fine Arts from the University of Calgary and a graduate of the MAED-CI program from the University of Phoenix. She teaches Secondary Art for the Calgary Board of Education.

Her first appreciation of art came from her grandmother’s paintings, which hung on the walls throughout her father’s home. She would stare and admire the details in the trees, the shadows in the snow and the moods in the skies. During her education to become a teacher she decided to take an introductory art course. One of the required readings was Betty Edward’s book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. It was at that time the artist within Tammy began to emerge.

She discovered that anyone could learn to draw and thus began her creative journey.

Tammy works with acrylic paint and takes pleasure in the challenges of design fundamentals and colour relationships. She paints to feel more alive, more energetic and more spiritually connected to something greater than herself. Tammy envisions her projects but understands that she is only participating in the inauguration of an independent life. She tries to stay out of her head and let the decisions come from a divine source. Tammy’s work is always with her, moving, impassioned, and eager to find its way into the world. She aspires to let life feed her art and to remain open, receptive and responsive to the moment.
